Yes, I do know that manatees are usually found in Florida where we lived for 25 years before we came out west. They would congregate in the warm waters situated close to the local power company where the water was congenial and held grasses on which they thrived. So when the aluminum nugget that rose from the ashes of our backyard firepit seemed to hold a resemblance to a manatee I felt drawn to bring it into my creative work.
 
This wonky wire wrapped pendant necklace is a combination of my wire wrapping skills, beaded jewelry making, and my husband's habit of melting aluminum in our backyard fire pit when we lived in Florida. My wire wrapped combo of evergreen and silver wires form a wearable scarf of sorts for this "sea cow" which is a nickname given because of their large size, slow movement, and herbivorous grazing habits. The pendant hangs from a triple braid of black and green bonded nylon cord that complement the texture applied to the pendant. Adding quartz nuggets and Swarovski glass pearls to the perfect toggle closure for this piece brings balance to a fine wearable art necklace. Odd but beautiful.
